Parent Teacher Meeting for Transition Years, Fifth Years and Leaving Certificate Applied Year 1

This year’s Parent Teacher Meeting for Transition Years, Fifth Years and Leaving Certificate Applied Year 1 on Wednesday 15th March will take place online using the students’ Teams account.  Parents will be asked to login to an App where they can indicate the teachers with whom they wish to meet.  Each meeting will be strictly five minutes maximum in length.  Parents who wish to meet the teacher in person in the school should contact the school office in advance of the meeting.

To login you will need the School Roll Number (91517D) and a password which will be issued to on Friday 24th  February.  All preferences should be entered on or before Thursday 2nd March.  A rota for the meetings will then be generated and distributed to parents via the pupils.   Parents/guardians who are unable to attend the meeting are asked to indicate this when they login to the app.

It is hoped to cluster the meetings for parents/guardians to a block of time, with intervals of five minutes between each meeting where possible.  In order to make the timetabled meetings as user friendly as possible, on examination subjects will be included initially.  However, parents/guardians will be able to request meetings with the Religious Education, Physical Education, Remedial and Guidance Teachers; and also the Year Heads and Chaplain, by contacting them directly.

The meetings will be held using the student’s Teams account at the times indicated on the rota.  Details of this procedure are available on the attached document.  A similar version will be distributed to the students on Friday 24th February which will also have their Student ID

In the meantime, parents/guardians are asked to go to https://ptmorg.com/parentlogin.php?School=91517D where you can enter the School Roll Number 91517D and the Student ID (as on the sheet given to the students)

Please follow the instructions on the sheet (attached/given to the students) to enter the preferences for the appointments or indicate that you are unable to attend the meeting.

National Award for LCA student- Athboy Community School

All of Mackenzie Kelly’s hard work paid off this January when the former Leaving Cert Applied student (Athboy Community School Class of 2022) was presented with the Fergal Quinn award. Mackenzie was presented  with the award at a ceremony in Athlone together with her family and Ms. Emma Donohoe, LCA Cordinator.

The awards are presented each year to those students who obtain the top credits in the Leaving Certificate Applied Examination of that year. The top performing students are notified by the State Examinations Commission. The student’s final credit total is of course based on their performance in the Leaving Certificate Applied Examination over the two years.

Mackenzie is a very diligent, determined and hardworking girl. Her commitment to the LCA programme was outstanding. She is self-motivated, shows excellent initiative and she completed all her LCA tasks to the highest standard. We wish her every success in her future endeavours.

Safer Internet Day

Hi everyone,

Just taking this opportunity on ‘ Safer Internet Day ‘ for a little update on what’s happening in DML in Junior Cycle.

Safer Internet Day is an annual event celebrated globally on the second day of the 2nd week of February with the aim of promoting a safer and better internet for all users. The theme for 2023 is “Want to talk about it? Making space for conversations about life online”.

The Safer Internet Day slogan of “Together for a better internet” encourages everyone to join the movement, to participate, and to make the most of the internet’s potential to bring people together.

As you may know students take DML as a short course with 1 hour each week  encouraging positive use of social media and the internet and cover topics from Fake News , Digital Footprint, Cyber Bullying, Privacy issues etc. The team of teachers involved in delivering the course with me are Ms Mc Grory, Ms  O’ Hare and  Ms Leanne Barrett.

Some of the activities happening presently/ near future :

  • First Years –Competiton this week to design an internet Safety Message on a sticker using Canva in each DML class. The winning sticker will be printed for the class to place on their devices. Webwise have supplied us with some wrist bands for some First Years too.
  • Workshops – Laura Hoey – Wellness Hub Mental Health Officer will deliver a workshop titled           ” Staying Well online ” on Friday 10th February 2023 (1st Year Cezanne, Degas, Monet)  and Friday 24th February 2023 to 1st Year Renoir . Students will receive a little wellness pack too. She will deliver a workshop to 5th years and LCA 1 on Thursday 16th March 2023. ( Will post times/ venue on Teams for the students)
  • Second & Third Years – Have entered the Inspiring Digital Enterprise Awards (IDEA) and are busy earning their badges. Students who achieve the Bronze Award will be presented with their certificate after Easter.

  • Third Years have just finished presenting their CBA s on a range of issues relating to internet safety. Some presented to first years.

  • We continue to work on lessons from the FUSE programme with SPHE teachers.

Please find link attached to the Patents Hub on Webwise . Here you will find information and support to ensure your child makes the most of their time on line. The TalkListenLearn campaign supports parents on topics of conversation around on line activity using the Topic Generator.

Have a great day, Ms Mooney
