Athboy Community School became North Leinster Under 14 Hurling Champions for 2017 when they beat St Finians of Mullingar on Friday the 26th of May last.

Athboy Community School, which feeds from all surrounding clubs on both sides of the Meath Westmeath border, started this final game of 2017 much the stronger team.  However, they were finding it difficult to score and the scoreboard at half time did not reflect their dominance.  Some consistent fouling from the Athboy side was keeping the Westmeath school, who beat Castlepollard CC and Tullamore CC on their path to the final, well in the game. The Athboy side, who themselves had laid down some big markers on their way to the final, beating Dunboyne CC 6-10 to 4-3 and Ratoath CC in the Meath Final by a similar scoreline, were never going to give up trying. As expected the Athboy lads started to find their range on the Castlepollard club grounds and in the final ten minutes the flood gates opened, resulting in a final score of 6-17 to 0-7.

The Athboy Community School panel consisted of : Shane Monaghan, Evan Cole, Cormac Browne, Cian McGourty, Padraic Monaghan, Dean Walsh, Kevin Brady, James Black, Jamie Reilly, Oisin Kiernan, Eoin Fitzsimons, Lee Coldrick (Captain), Oisin Peelman-Moens, Seb Mac Pherson, Adam O’ Brien , Matthew Cully, Ollie McClair, Evan Geoghegan, Ben McCormack, Alex McGovern, Ryan Byas, Aaron Fenlon, Ciaran Daly, Darren Kilcoyne, Steven Cassidy.

Well done to Bainisteoir Mr. Anthony Sheridan and his assistants Conor Mc Govern, Eoin Griffin and Cian Harmon.
