The Open Night is for the purpose of providing information on subjects and policies.

Facilitated by the Department of Communications, Climate Action and environment and ICS Foundation

C01: Art

This is a general art course for people wishing to develop their creative skills. It would be suitable for beginners or for people with an interest in Art and Design. During this programme individuals will have the opportunity to explore a variety of mediums in a relaxed and supportive setting. Improve your sketching skills, develop an awareness of artist work and experiment in 3dimensions and relief.

C02: Introduction to Photography

Classes are practical based and take place in an enjoyable informal atmosphere.  Students will learn how to use their camera, improve their compositional skills and understand more fully how to take the images they are looking for. Students are encouraged to develop their ideas through a series of practical projects and illustrated talks exploring photography.

C03: Sign Language for Beginners

Learn how to communicate with your hands in a fun and friendly atmosphere

C04:  ‘Christmas Treasures’- Flower Arranging

This course covers all aspects of flower arranging, including modern and traditional arrangements for the Christmas season. New ideas and techniques this year to be shared.

C05:  Conversational Spanish

Brush up on your Spanish for holidays in sunny Spain ! Fee: €70Tutor: Joe Tynan

 

C06: Italian Classes

The Italian language is one of culture and travel. Speaking and understanding Italian is necessary to fully discover a country rich in history, art and literature. Italian also means “Made in Italy” and everyone loves Italian food, wine, fashion and design. It’s the fourth most studied language in the world!

This course uses a communicative and interactive approach to develop your Italian speaking, reading, listening and writing skills in a natural manner with real life context.

C07: Computers for Beginners

Course aimed at those who require the first steps of computer knowledge and those who wish to improve basic skills learned already – learn the basics of Microsoft Word, Excel, managing files, internet & email.                                                                                                                                                               Fee: €70      Tutor: Maggie Mc Grory

 

C08: Introduction to Aromatherapy

An in depth study of 12 essential oils, their therapeutic actions and how they can help in everyday life. This course will deal with natural remedies for allergies, cleaning your home, treating common bacterial and viral infections such as colds and flu, aiding children’s health in a natural way and creating your own beauty range. This course will allow you to understand all the benefits of essential oils have to offer.

Cheques payable to Athboy Community School. The school WILL NOT contact you unless the class has been cancelled.  So once enrolled please come on the first night of the class.

General Information

  • Fees for course must be paid in full before the last day of enrolment.
  • Fees are non-refundable, unless a course does not run due to insufficient numbers or a tutor being unavailable.
  • Property: Responsibility cannot be taken for loss/damage to students’ property.
  • Tea/ Coffee Break- some classes take a 10 minute break where tea & coffee will be provided.
  • Smoking is strictly forbidden in any part of the school building and grounds.
  • Classrooms are expected to be left ready for class the next morning.

 

TY Carlingford Trip

This year’s Transition Year class enjoyed an overnight trip to Carlingford Adventure Centre where they took part in water based team activities.  The group were accompanied by Ms Garrett and Mr. Forde.

 

Digital Skills for Citizens

Athboy Community School will offer “Digital Skills for Citizens” from Tuesday 7th November 2017 from 7 – 9 p.m. for 5 weeks. This consists of basic internet training targeting certain groups in society including; people aged 45+, farming communities, small business owners, jobseekers, persons with disabilities, and disadvantaged groups. The training is funded by the Department of Communications, Climate Action & Environment. It is free of charge to anyone interested in taking part.  Please contact the school office at 046 9487894 if you would like to reserve a place.

 

 

 

New Starting and Finishing Times

This year classes will start at 8.50 a.m. each day.  Classes will finish at 3.45 p.m. on Mondays to Thursdays, and finish at 1.30 p.m. on Fridays.

Pupils will have Assembly at 8.35 a.m. on one day each week.  All pupils should be on site at 8.30 a.m. each morning in order to avoid late arrival for classes.  It is the responsibility of parents/guardians to ensure that pupils arrive on time for school.

A New School Year

Best of luck to all our First Years who start their second level careers today Monday 28th August.

Second, Third, Transition Years, Leaving Certs and Leaving Certificate Applied Year 2 return on Tuesday 29th

Fifth Years and Leaving Certificate Applied Year 1 return on Wednesday 30th.

 

Good luck also to this year’s Leaving Certificate class, many of whom will start their third level careers or employment over the next week or so.
