LCVP Visit Out – Meath Civil Defence

On Tuesday last, Ms Mooney’s 5th LCVP class embarked on an enlightening visit to explore the inner workings of Meath Civil Defence offices in Navan, shedding light on the indispensable role they play in safeguarding our communities.

Upon arrival, the students were greeted by Civil Defence Officer, Shane Quinn who generously shared his expertise and experiences. The visit commenced with an insightful briefing, delving into the history of the Civil Defence, ranging from disaster preparedness to emergency response stories. Students gained profound insights into the importance of proactive measures in ensuring public safety.

Shane presented an engaging presentation and interactive demonstrations provided a hands-on experience, allowing students to grasp the significance of effective communication, coordination, and resource allocation during crises. The equipment showcased every aspect of the meticulous planning and unwavering commitment of Civil Defence professionals.

Beyond the technical aspects, the visit instilled a sense of civic responsibility and empowerment among the students. They learned the importance of active involvement in volunteer initiatives.

As the visit concluded, students departed with newfound knowledge and a deeper appreciation for the tireless efforts of Civil Defense agencies. We will use this information to inform our Action Plan for our LCVP Portfolio.

Huge thanks go to Megan and her Dad Shane for making this visit possible and most enjoyable. Thanks also to Assistant Civil Defence Officer David Treanor.
