Athboy Students Saddle Up for Pedigree Performance

January 31, 2025

The L.C.A.2 class in Athboy Community School had a very enjoyable day out at the War Horse in the Bord Gais Energy Theatre on Thursday January 30th. 17 students went on the trip organised by their English & Communications module teachers Miss Crosby and Miss James. The group would also like to thank S.N.A. Noreen Smyth for her help on the day

Set before and during World War 1 the plot follows Joey, a horse raised by an English boy Albert, bought by the British Army, leading him to various adventures throughout Europe in the midst of the war. The students really enjoyed the play, especially the incredible puppet horses that formed the centrepiece of the production. The trip forms part of the students Key Assignments portfolio as they now have to write up a report on aspects of the production such as set design, props, puppetry, costume, lighting and sound.
