As part of our ongoing commitment to enriching the learning experience of our students, we have 1:1 student devices here in Athboy Community School. 1:1 (One to One) is where, in a school, each student has their own dedicated device which they use as part of their learning. The device belongs to the student, so they use it both in school and for studying at home.
This initiative will follow a blended-learning model, with students using traditional textbooks alongside digital tools to promote interactive learning, collaboration, and skill development within a secure and structured environment. Given the ever-increasing use of IT in our schools for Junior Cycle CBAs, Transition Year Portfolios and Senior Cycle projects, we believe that the use of 1:1 devices is the best way to support learning and teaching in our school.
Below, you will find key information on the rationale behind this initiative, guidance on purchasing a 1:1 device.
