Athboy Community School is proud to announce that the School Captains for the 2026-27 Academic Year are Cormac D’Arcy and Josh McCole, two very worthy and exemplary candidates.
Cormac is from Higginstown and previously went to O’Growney N.S. He is a member of Athboy Celtic and enjoys playing soccer. He has been assistant coaching with an underage team for a few years now and has picked up some coaching badges along the way. Cormac was involved in some leadership roles thoughout his time in the school, such as Senior Mentors, Student Council and Dreamspace Ambassadors MS. He is extremely proud to have been chosen as School Captain considering the quality of other applicants from within the Prefect group.
Before starting at Athboy C.S, Josh attended Monsignor E. L. Doyle Elementary School in Canada, having lived there for ten years. He enjoys playing golf, including practicing at the range and playing out on the course. Josh also likes to go swimming and play a bit of football with his friends. After completing Senior Mentors in Transition Year, Josh applied, and was selected, as a new Prefect and started to get more involved with the school community. Going into sixth year, he then applied for the role of School Captain and was delighted to be chosen for the role. Josh was also recently elected onto the school’s Student Council.
The two Captains are excellent role models for other students to look up to and were chosen from the cohort of 6th year Prefects. The candidate must have put themselves forward by way of an application and must have carried out the role of Prefect to an excellent standard. All candidates were considered and a shortlist was decided upon by Principal, Deputy Principal, relevant Year Heads and the Student Leadership Coordinator, Miss Di Lucia. The teaching staff then voted on the short-listed candidates.
Everyone in Athboy Community School extends their congratulations to Cormac and Josh and wishes them well in their duties in the year ahead.
