Today language students all over Europe are celebrating The European Day of Languages, and the German, French and EAL students of Athboy CS are no exception. We have been marking this event all week with activities and games.
First year students drew the flags of Europe and learnt how to say ‘Hello’ in different European languages. They also worked on language activity booklets.
Second year French and German students partnered up to interview each other in their target language, they enjoyed learning a few new phrases. They designed posters, half German, half French. They enjoyed trying to speak in a new language.
Third year students researched a European country they would like to visit or have family ties to and translated a few sentences into the native language.
Fifth year German and French students enjoyed online language activity games in the computer lab.
TY French students researched French speaking colonies, while TY German students researched German companies that are known worldwide.
Sixth year students joined up and were treated to ‘Kaffee und Kuchen’ and ‘Café et Croissants’.
All students in the school were invited to take part in a ‘Language Quest’ today. There will be prizes for the winners!
