Friendship Week- Pics

Athboy Community School held a very successful Friendship Week in the school with numerous activities held on each day this week, October 6th-10th.

To celebrate Friendship Week, the Home Economics Department prepared friendship bracelets for all 1st Year students. These bracelets symbolise the effort our students have made in transitioning from 6th Class to 1st Year and the positive steps they are taking to get to know one another. The bracelets were distributed to all 1st Years in their tutorials on Monday.

The Art Department organised a poster competition for 1st years and decorated the school to provide a lovely atmosphere during the week.

On Tuesday, 3rd Year students had a presentation on Mental Health delivered by Brenda Bradley from Jigsaw who outlined the supports and services they offer. 1st Years will have this presentation next week.

Both JC & SC SPHE classes were focused on friendship as a theme all week. Other subject teachers also looked into building the theme of friendship into their own subject areas during the week. Another activity focused on friendship was students in all SPHE class groups adding decorative leaves with characteristics of their friends to the friendship tree in the GPA.

Tutors paired students in their classes up for ‘Random Acts of Kindness’ during the week, this could be any act of kindness big or small, anything to epitomise the spirit of friendship all week. This also took place amongst staff members.

The Amber Flag Committee organised some activities taking place during lunch break all week to mark Friendship Week.  On Monday and Tuesday there was Music in the GPA with students Laura McCole, Nenyasha Maticha, Samantha Taylor and Molly MacNiece helping out.

On Wednesday there was Zumba in the Music Room with Rhys Sheehan, Michelins Rozych, Arianna Flynn, Ruth Coffey, Rian Bartley, Jamie Brogan, Rebecca Masterson, Michael Galvin, Jake Smyth, Tara Fay, Oisin Timmons and Corey Muldowney helping out.

Thanks so much to all who got involved and to the Wellbeing Team in particular for organising such an array of activities.
