Athboy Community School offers a Coding Short course. Computers are an everyday part of modern society that allow us to communicate, calculate, create, design, learn and play. Through gaining an understanding of how these digital systems work students will build up a bank of knowledge for use in the creation of their own programs.
Students in Athboy Community School are encouraged to enter SciFest competitions (either @school or @college).
SciFest is the largest second-level STEM fair programme in Ireland. ACS hold a SciFest fair in school which consists of a competition and exhibition of projects. These projects may be selected to progress to the next level – SciFest @ college. Students get to display their work in a regional third level college, usually Dundalk IT.
Their projects are judged against a number of other post-primary schools in Ireland. The regional event features a wide range of activities, including interactive exhibits, hands-on workshops, engaging lectures, live demonstrations and talks on careers in STEM and courses available in the college.
A number of students represented Athboy Community School at SciFest over the years. They have achieved awards such as: DkIT Runner-up Physical Sciences or Technology Project, Vermilion Energy Innovation Award, Best Communicator Award.
