On Wednesday the 14th of January, the TY DreamSpace Ambassadors took part in an online training session.
The DreamSpace Ambassador Programme is overseen by teacher and Student Leadership Coordinator Ms. Leah Di Lucia. The TY students involved will take part in 5 online training sessions over the course of the year. They will organise events in the school using what they have learnt in these training sessions. They will then attend a graduation at Microsoft in Dublin later in the year to get their certificates of completion.
The day began with two special guests from Microsoft, who spoke to the students about their careers and what they do working for Microsoft. After this, the group began their training.
The two main topics of the training session was OWL (Older Wiser Learners) and AI. The students learned how to support older wiser learners online, to teach them how to use technology, how to make them aware of scams online and how to identify them. The group also did an exercise on spotting features of scam emails and text messages.
The students then learned about AI and how it has so many uses and applications, but they also learned about the dangers of AI like how it can even imitate voices, and more. The group did an exercise whereby they looked at an images and then tried to identify if it was AI or a real image. If at times they identified them as real and they were actually AI, it showed the students how advanced and how real AI has gotten.
The training session on OWL and AI was very useful for the TY’s who felt it would help them when planning their DreamSpace Ambassador events in the school.
