Athboy C.S Awards Ceremony

Awards Day and Graduation 

It was a busy week in Athboy Community School with the annual Awards Ceremony for the whole school held on Wednesday May 21st.. At the Awards Ceremony in the school gymnasium, for each year group, the Year Head presented prizes for the Student of the Year, Care and Creativity, three key awards which reflect the spirit of our school: 

The Care Award is given for demonstrating care, empathy and kindness in all interactions with students and staff. 

The Creativity Award celebrates the student who has shared their creativity, innovation, expression, and fresh thinking for the betterment of the school community 

The Student of the Year Award is linked to the school’s Learning Code and Asset Portfolios, recognising students who have shown outstanding growth, leadership, and personal responsibility. 

 

First Year Head Miss Mooney presented the Creativity award in 1st year to Caoimhe O’Brien. The Care Award winner was Lukrecija Luka Indzeleviciute. The student of the year in 1st year is Aoife Hand. 

 

Second Year Head Mr. Maxwell presented the Creativity Award to Saule Kaviliauskaite. The Care Award went to Oisin McGuinness and the 2ndYr Student of the Year is Ely Chepiha. 

 

Third Year head Mr. Fox presented the Creativity Award to Rhian Bartley. The Care Award recipient was Sam Doyle and the 3rd year Student of the year is Erin Melligan. 

 

5th year head Miss McGrory presented the Creativity Award to Rachel Long. Lucy Heaney won the Care Award and the 5th year Student of the year is Charotte Colgan. 

 

In LCA1, the Creativity Award was presented by Year head Miss Donohoe to Sophie Tenanty. Sarah Buckley-Doran was the winner of the Care Award. The LCA1 Student of the Year is Sarah Buckley-Doran. 

 

A special award was presented to Jamal Murphy who is leaving to take up further educational opportunities, to recognise his warmth, kindness and enthusiasm and for making such a lasting impression on the school community during his years in Athboy C.S. 

 

Transition years were presented with their awards at their Graduation on Monday night, May 26th. 

 

Subject Excellence Awards were presented to each year group in their assemblies by their Year Head, but the 6th Year awards were presented in front of the whole school at the Award Ceremony. Subject Awards recognise students for consistently excellent standards of Work and Participation.Year Head Mr. Magner read out the recipients of these awards who were then presented with a beautiful trophy by their teachers.  

In LCA2 the Mathematical Applications and also the ICT award went to Jessica Ullah. Jack Duff won the English& Communications award. The Social Education winner was Nikisha Nobuhle Hlongwane. Shayne Mc Namara won the award for French and Thomas Sweetman scooped the Engineering award. The Hotel, Catering & Tourism award went to Aimee Boyle and Adam Duff won the VPG award. The Craft & Design winner was Kieron Dunne and the Religion award went to Lily Rose Brennan. 

 

In the 6th year class Simon Nolan won the English award with both Gaeilge and Maths being won by Adam Kearney. Fiona Boylan won both the French and P.E. Exam Subject award while Ellen Farrelly-O’Connor won the general PE award. The German winner was Dominik Petrusic with Emily O’Looney winning the prize for Construction. Patrick Casey won the DCG award with Christian Doherty emerging as winner in both Engineering and Home Economics. Conor Muldoon was the History winner with Chelsey Maendayi scooping the honours in Business. Eoin Kelleher won the Accounting prize with Eve Kelleher earning the LCVP award. Thomas Boylan won the award in both Geography and Biology with Niamh Leonard winning the Agricultural Science prize. The Physics award went to James McFerran and Anastasiia Volkova earned the prize for Art. The Music winner was Cam Ly Stewart with Hannah-Mai O’Connor winning the Religion award. 

 

Next to be presented were the Sports Personalities of the Year. The Female Sports recipient is Kaitlyn Gallagher, an outstanding athlete, competitor and sportswoman. As well as being an excellent P.E. student and so positive about all aspects of sports, she has also represented the school and her county in both Gaelic Football and Camogie.  

The Male Sports Personality of the Year is Eoin Kelleher, another outstanding athlete who has excelled down through the years on the field, most notably in gaelic games – football and hurling, but also basketball and soccer. He has an exemplary sporting attitude, a keen sense of healthy competition, and a huge amount of natural talent and ability.  

 

The Creativity Award in 6th year was based on nominations by teachers in the Arts, Humanities and practical subject areas. This proved to be a very, very difficult choice as there is so much talent in the area of creativity in the year group.The winner is Cam Ly Stewart, a brilliant art student but also a wonderful musician, both in terms of singing and composing. In LCA2 the Creativity Award winner is Grace Voynov, an excellent artist and creative student who excelled in her years in the school. 

 

The 6th Years themselves were asked to nominate the recipient of the Care Award for their own Year Group. Such is the atmosphere of care and helpfulness in the year that there were quite a few names in the running for this award, but in the end the winner of the Care Award for the Leaving Cert Class of 2025is Rihana Kalala and in the LCA2 class, the Care Award winner is Kieron Dunne. 

 

Next a Community and Student Voice Award was presented to Conor Muldoon, a member of the Student Council throughout his time in the school, acting as Chairperson since he was in 2nd year. Conor has represented the school on the Association of Community and Comprehensives Student Voice Initiative and was published in the ACCS Student Voice journal.  His leadership, aptitude for politics and ability to get things done strongly suggest that this student will feature in public life in the very near future and will soon be looking for your votes!   

 

The Mol an Óige Award came into being last year and it was created to recognise a student who has shown resilience, that has overcome obstacles and has worked as hard as possible to achieve their goals, for getting involved in so many aspects of the school community, and for being a kind and generous individual in all aspects of school life. This year the award went to Keelin McKeogh. 

 

Students of the YearAward in both LCA2 and 6th year were generously sponsored by Le Cheile Credit Union in Athboy/Oldcastle. The LCA Student of the Year is Caolan Fitzsimons. Caolan personifies hard work and dedication, has excelled in all his key assignments and tasks and embodies the spirit of the LCA Programme. 

The 6thYr. Student of the Year Award was presented to Fiona Boylan, a student who has displayed an excellent work ethic and a high level of participation in school life throughout her years in the school. In consultation with staff, students were nominated for this award and it was not an easy task to choose one winner.Fiona is a very hardworking, diligent, and extremely helpful studentand hasbeen involved in so many aspects of school life. She influences others positively and is an excellent role model for other students. 

 

Congratulations to all award winners across the years and best of luck to the Junior and Leaving Cert exam students as they sit their state examinations in June.
