Fun Walk

October 9, 2025

Athboy Community School took a short break from studies today, Thursday October 9th, as the students hit the paths for a sponsored walk to raise funds to support teaching and learning in the school.

Sponsorship cards were distributed in advance of the event to everyone in the school with prizes on offer for the individual who raises the most money as well as the home class who raise the most. A special thank you to Le Cheile Credit Union, Athboy for their generous sponsorship of prizes.

The course was 5km long starting at the school steps, up along Main Street, out to the Otterstown loop, and then back to the school. The Transition Years and GAA future Leaders Group acted as stewards with the teachers, while the rest of the staff walked alongside their students.

There was hot chocolate prepared as the students arrived back as well as a special tuck shop for the occasion. A special thank you to the Gethin family of The Village Store Kildalkey for their help with stock.

So far, an incredible €10,000 has been raised by today’s Fun Run. Up to this point, the school has been able to replace 18 data projectors in classrooms with modern Smart TV’s which have been of enormous benefit to teaching and learning in the school. The money raised by today’s walk will be put towards equipping even more rooms with these Smart TV’s which will have a massive positive impact and will be used to directly support the students educational experience and general wellbeing.

Well done to each and every student for taking part and to all those who sponsored them or contributed in any way.
