Athboy C.S at the Double!- Pics

U17 Div 3 North East League Final: Athboy CS 2-1 Beaufort College .
There was huge excitement in the school today when the u17 boys returned with the North-East League trophy after a pulsating win over Beaufort College in the final in Kentstown. It represents a double for Athboy and coach Mr. Mahon, as the u19s had sealed the u19 title only yesterday.
The u17 players were met off their bus at the steps of the school and given a guard of honour along with the u19 champions. The whole school community was there to meet them on the steps, in the GPA and on the landings above the stage.
Under 19 Captain Liam Farrell and under 17 captain Briain Smith addressed the crowd and paid tribute to their team-mates and to coach, Mr. Mahon, to whom they dedicated both wins. Mr.Mahon himself spoke about the dedication showed by the boys all season, the numbers at training sessions and the work-ethic and character they have shown in their games.
 Match Report:
Athboy CS travelled to Kentstown Astro Park for a final on a second consecutive day today to again face Beaufort College who Athboy defeated to with the u19 NE League Final on Monday.
Beaufort started the strongest going one up about twenty minutes in, creating plenty of chances in opening phase of the game. Athboy bounced back before half-time grabbing two goals through Cillian Griffin and Lovely Nosakhara to take 2-1 lead going into the break.
The game would finish that way at 2-1 after a tight second half dominated by tough weather and dominance in midfield by Athboy. It was a brilliant final victory for our u17s who will join the u19s representing the school in Leinster Champions League in March.
Best performances on the day were from striker Dylan O’Meara, Armandas Bartoska at centre back and Christopher Monaghan at right back. Well done lads and Mr. Mahon!
Athboy CS: Harry Perle, Shane Hendrick, Armandas Bartoska, Rhys Sheehan, Christopher Monaghan, Lovely Nosakhara, Cillian Griffin, Briain Smith, Lee Ryan, Dylan O’Meara, Marat Jachjajev
Subs: Cian Smith, Jamie McGuinness, Cormac Cahill, Ben Brady, Jake Fulham, David Ogu, Alex Darcy
