Girls Gaelic Football

Last Thursday our Junior Ladies football team played Rathcairn in a great game, but unfortunately the result didn’t go in their favour as they lost out by two points. Athboy captains on the day were Maisie Reilly and Melissa Clarke and they were coached by Miss Lynch. 

The girls all played a very strong first half, going in for every tackle and working together with some excellent scores from Chloe Doherty, Melissa Clarke, Mylah Carolan and Daisy Mulvaney. The top scorer of the first half was Melissa, scoring 1–3.  

The Athboy girls made a great comeback in the second half with some great defending down in the backs, and with some more superb scores. Melissa Clarke, Mylah Carolan and Daisy Mulvaney all scored 1:1 in the second half. Unfortunately, by the final whistle, the girls were down by two points, the final score being 9-1 to 5-11.

Overall it was still a fantastic game with great teamwork and defending by all the girls on the team, and it was a determined performance by all!
