Congratulations to past pupil Ross Farrelly, who has featured on the Maynooth University website as part of the ‘My M.U. Experience’ series as he speaks about his time there studying Business and Management.
A transcript of the article follows, as does a link to the story on the Maynooth University Website.
A native of Athboy, County Meath, Ross Farrelly attended Athboy Community School and is now in his 4th and final year at Maynooth University. Ross chose to pursue an accredited work placement, after second year, with Enterprise Rent-A-Car in Swords.
“I chose to study Business at Maynooth University because I really enjoyed the subject at school. My teacher, Ms Mooney, was a big inspiration and always encouraged me.”
The MH404 BBS/BBA in Business and Management is the flagship undergraduate degree programme in the School of Business, offering comprehensive coverage of all major elements of business and the widest range of optional modules. Ross has availed of many opportunities offered as part of the degree, and can foresee a variety of areas opening up to him after his studies, owing to the transferable skills he has gained so far.
“The accredited work placement has given me real-world industry experience and now an opportunity for a graduate role once I complete my final year. I continue to work part-time at Enterprise. This has allowed me to be in a position when I finish college to go from an Intern to a Management Assistant (MA) and then when the time is right an Assistant Manager and start progressing to Branch Manager, Area Manager etc. This sets me up with a clear line of progression.”
Notable achievements in your studies so far:
I came 4th out of 164 Business and Management students with a first class average of 75.0 in second year.
I achieved Enterprise’s “Champions Club” which recognises the top sales in the country 7 times to date, 6 times in a row, and hit 1st in the country for the month of October.
I came joint second place in the intern of the year competition across all the Interns within Enterprise and received a €1k bonus as a result.
Ross has really benefitted from the experience of applying skills acquired through learning to real-world action.
“My degree will help me to branch out in a range of directions in the management field.”
