On Wednesday the 29th of April, a group of the Student Council Executive Officers and members, Erin Melligan (Chairperson), Nenyasha Maticha, Isobel Canty, Savanagh Reilly and Samantha Taylor met with the Board of Management to present a report on Student Council activities in Athboy C.S, the major events they organise and how they represent the student body within the school.
Each delegate delivered a short report on some of the initiatives undertaken by the Student Council this academic year.
The Board were told about the election process to choose class representatives, the structure of the Council and how officers were elected, as well as the drafting of their Student Council Constitution.
The delegates reported on how the school was represented on Meath Comhairle na nÓg and how they organised Stand Up Week in the school. Another delegate informed the board about the Hallowe’en Dress Up Day and how Jigsaw were the nominated charity for the proceeds of same, and how this led to a visit by Jigsaw to give talks on mental health to some year groups.
The Shoebox Appeal at Christmas was outlined, as was the successful Multi-Cultural Week, both of which fell under the remit of the Student Council in the school.
The delegates also outlined to the board the various polices they have been consulted on and involved with over the year like the Health and Safety Policy, Acceptable User Policy and the Learning Code Review.
They also explained how the Child Protection Statements were translated into every language spoken by members of the school community, and that they have produced a lengthy full colour newsletter to showcase some of their achievements.
