By Erin Melligan, TY

45 of the Transition Year class in Athboy C.S went on a trip to Rome from Friday the 17th of April to Monday the 20th of April, accompanied by Year Head Mr Hurley and teachers Mr Kington, Mr Mahon, Ms. Vaughan and Ms Farrelly.

After a very early start on Friday morning, the students arrived in Rome and wasted no time before starting their first day with a visit to the Vatican City with the famous Vatican Museum and St. Peters Basilica, as well as getting to see the Sistine Chapel!

On their second day the TYs had a long bus trip to Pompeii to visit the remains of the city that was frozen in time after a volcanic eruption in 79AD. While there, they got to learn about the history of the city and what happened to the people of Pompeii on the day of the eruption. They then took a trip to Mt. Vesuviusclimbing to the top to admire the beautiful views and the volcano crater.

On their third day the group took a trip to Rainbow Magicland, a theme park where there was no shortage of rollercoasters and rides for everyone to enjoyA great time was had by all! After this, the group took the bus to the centre of Rome where they got a walking guided tour of the Colosseum, Roman aqueducts, and many other ancient Roman features that still remain in the modern day city! The students all got the chance to learn more about the history of the citywhile enjoying the beautiful views and taking photos!

On the last day in the Eternal Citythe students got to do some shopping in the WOW Side Shopping Centre before heading to the airport to get their flight back to Ireland! Overall, it was a fantastic experience for everyone who went, with warm weather, great fun and actionpacked activities the entire time

The students would like to thank Mr. Hurley and the teachers for organising the tour and for giving up so much of their time to make the trip happen. It was such a special tour for the TY’s with memories that will last a lifetime.
