Athboy C.S. Transition Year students and their teachers visited the Croke Park Museum on April 27th.
They enjoyed a short guided tour of the museum and then they were free to browse the rest of the exhibits. The students saw a framed original of the Proclamation of the Irish Republic, the treasury of trophies including the Liam McCarthy and Sam Maguire Cups, as well as antique jerseys, medals, memorabilia and exhibits from Bloody Sunday in 1920. The group learned so much about both history and sports.
After visiting the museum, the group was taken to an activity room for a little while. Some students got to do a reaction test, hitting buttons quickly to see how good their reaction time is.
Next, the students were taken on the stadium tour. It was especially interesting for them to visit areas such as the player’s lounge, dressing rooms and warm up area. They even got to lift the trophy in the presentation gantry!
