On Tuesday the 9th of December, the School Debating Clubhad their first outing in the ACCS Debating Competition.
The team made up of Liam Fenton, Clodagh Cunningham, Erin Melligan, and Edgaras Jauregui, proposed the motion that ‘TY should be made mandatory for all Students’.The other members of the Debating Club were in attendance for support and feedback.
Athboy C.S. were up against a very experienced Bailieborough Community School team and on the day, that experience paid off. Our visitors made very strong arguments and were great debaters, so congratulations to them.
The Athboy speakers battled hard and tried their best to the end with team members feeling that in their very first competition, they did quite well, learning a lot from the experience that can be taken on board when preparing for the next fixture. The Team got to see a second debate in which Clane Community School were the victors. Clane and Bailieborough will go on to the next round.
A massive thank you to Ms. Leddy for organising the debate and for helping the team to prepare, and to Ms Garrihy, for enabling us to host at our school!
