As part of its Attendance Policy, Athboy Community School recognised students who have a full attendance or an attendance of above 90% for the first trimester at assemblies this week.
Each year group had, or will have, a PowerPoint presentation delivered by the Principal Ms Garrihy and their Year Head that emphasised the importance of daily attendance at school, how it supports every student’s learning journey and helps students to do better in exams. It also outlined how good attendance encourages a positive school culture, helps students to build friendships and aids both well-being and confidence.
Students were encouraged to recognise that not only does every day count, but that every minute counts, so as part of its attendance drive, the importance of punctuality and good habits about preparation was also emphasised.
Every month, the class with the most improved attendance rate are awarded treats to be shared in tutorial class. The class with the best attendance will be rewarded with a pizza party. At the end of each semester students with 90% attendance or over will be recognised at assembly and presented with a certificate. This week there were 356 students across all year groups presented with this cert for the first trimester, 30 of whom had missed zero days at all.
As part of the policy, at the end of the year awards ceremony, all those with 95% attendance or higher will be recognised with a certificate.
Last month, December, the classes with the highest attendance rates were Lonsdale in 1st year, Lloyd in 2nd year, in third year it was Class Ailbe, in TY it was Class Ash, in 5th year it was Class Teal and in 6th year it was Class Trinity.
Congratulations to all classes and individuals concerned. Pictured are the 12 first year students who had 100% attendance for the first trimester.
