Awards Day in Athboy C.S.

It was a busy week in Athboy Community School with various events surrounding the Leaving Cert class with their barbecue, Graduation presentation and then the Awards Ceremony for the whole school on Wednesday May 20th.

 

At the Awards Ceremony in the school gymnasium, for each year group, the Year Head presented prizes for the Student of the Year, Care, and Creativity, three key awards which reflect the spirit of our school:

The Care Award is given for demonstrating care, empathy and kindness in all interactions with students and staff.

The Creativity Award celebrates the student who has shared their creativity, innovation, expression, and fresh thinking for the betterment of the school community  

The Student of the Year Award is linked to the school’s Learning Code and Asset Portfolios, recognising students who have shown outstanding growth, leadership, and personal responsibility.

 

At the start of the ceremony, membersof the Student Leadership groups were presented with certs; The Student Council, Prefects and Junior Mentors and the Amber Flag Committee. Medals were presented to victorious gaelic football and soccer teams in the school and plaques were presented by Miss Mooney to all those who had Full Attendance for this year.

 

First Year Head Miss Dowling presented the Creativity award in 1st year to Katarina Szaboova. The Care Award winner was Jenny Bradley. The student of the year in 1st year is Victory Osaruese Aigheiwi. The Tutor Awards in each class were presented to Rian Fleming in Burnell, Kayla Walsh in Lonsdale, Daniel Dempsey in Patten, Sean Healy in Thomson and Jiya Maria Bobby in Walton.

 

Second Year Head Miss Mooney  presented the Creativity Award to Daria Ghisiou. The Care Award went to Annie Mai Ludlow and the 2nd Yr Student of the Year is Mia Baugreet. The Tutor Awards in each class were presented to Jamie Hood in Baily, Aine Meagher in Cashla, Aoife Hand in Lloyd and Luan Scannell in Mew.

 

Third Year Head Mr. Maxwell presented the Creativity Award to Sian McKeon. The Care Award recipient was Molly McNeice and the 3rd year Student of the year is Ciarán Connor. Noah Gorst-Smith was presented with an Attendance Award for not missing a single day in his entire three years at Junior Cycle. The Tutor Awards in each class were presented to Conor Raleigh in Ailbe, Liam O’Brien in Brigid, Cleo Hering in Colomba, Sean Hand in Dympna and Jamie Farrell in Enda. 

 

Transition Years will be presented with their awards at their Graduation on Monday night, May 26th.

 

5th Year Head Mr. Fox presented the Creativity Award to Ada Ogarek. Saoirse Meagher won the Care Award and the 5th Year Student of the Year is Rebeccca Masterson. The Tutor awards were presented to Lee Ryan in Indigo, Jake Walsh in Navy, Josh McCole in Sage and Georgia Tobin in Teal. In LCA1, the Tutor Award was presented to Daire Harmon. The LCA1 Student of the Year is Zach Hering.

 

The school also made presentations to the highest achievers in the 2025 state exams. Fiona Boylan came back to the school to receive the award for achieving the highest points in the traditional Leaving Cert class of 2025. Grace Voynov and Jessica Ullah jointly got the highest LCA score last year, a perfect 100% in fact. Ryan Farrelly was presented with an award for the Best Junior Cert results in 2025.

 

Subject Excellence Awards werepresented to each year group in their assemblies by their Year Head, but the 6th Year awards were presented in front of the whole school at the Award Ceremony. Subject Awards recognise students for consistently excellent standards of Work and Participation.Year Heads Miss Leddy and Miss Quinn read out the recipients of these awards who were then presented with a beautiful trophy by their teachers.

 

In LCA2 the Engineering award went to Patryk Mazgula. Sofie Tenanty won the English & Communications award with Sarah Buckley-Doran winning the Irish award. The award for Work Experience went to Jason Byrne and Criag McKeon was presented with the art award. Tommy Doughty won the Horticulture/Agriculture award. Cian Larkin is the ICT winner.

 

In the 6th year class Charlie Kelly-Ryan won the Englishaward with the Gaeilge and P.E. awards going to Grace Kellly. Maths was won by Sean Doyle. Chloe Brueck won both the Art and Agricultural Science awards while Jack McKeown won the general P.E. award. The German winner was Sorcha O’Rourke, French was won by Charlotte Colgan, with Lucy Heaney winning the prize for Construction. Chloe Fletcher won the D.C.G. award with Diana Olesiak emerging as winner in Biology. Marc Finlayson took the Chemistry award and Thomas Stehlik scooped the Computer Science award. Cillian Griffin won the award in Accounting with Amber McEntee winning the Business prize. Dean O’Meara was the History winner with Glen Craig earning the LCVP award. Danny Herbert won the award in Geography with Lauren Henry winning the Home Economic award. The Physics award went to Emily O’Hanlon and Liam Fenton earned the prize for Religion. The Music winner was Rachel Long and Eanna Kiernan won the Engineering award.

 

The 6th year Tutor Awards were presented to Caoimhe Walsh in Dara, Neila McKeogh in Trinity, Billy Bowman in Triskele and Sarah Buckley Doran in Claddagh.

 

Next to be presented were the Sports Personalities of the Year. The Female Sports recipient is Leah Lynch, an outstanding athlete, competitor and sportswoman as well as being an excellent P.E. student and so positive about all aspects of sport.

The Male Sports Personality of the Year is Jack O’Connor, another outstanding athlete who has excelled down through the years most notably in Athletics. Jack has an exemplary sporting attitude, a keen sense of healthy competition, and a huge amount of natural talent and ability. 

 

The Creativity Award in 6th year was based on nominations by teachers in the Arts, Humanities and practical subject areas. This proved to be a very, very difficult choice as there is so much talent in the area of creativity in the year group.The winners in LCA2 and 6th Year are Sarah Buckley-Doran and Maya Namba Okello.

 

The 6th Years themselves were asked to nominate the recipient of the Care Award for their own Year Group. Such is the atmosphere of care and helpfulness in the year that there were quite a few names in the running for this award, but in the end the winner of the Care Award for the Leaving Cert Class of 2026 is Nick Keogh.

 

Next a Misneach Award was presented to Kayleigh Mooney, a student who pushed through  with her studies and her creativity down through her years in the school, who has demonstrated personal determination and grit every day while showing care and kindness for those around her. 

 

The Mol an Óige Award came into being two years ago and it was created to recognise a student who has shown resilience, that has worked as hard as possible to achieve their goals, for getting involved in so many aspects of the school community, and for being a kind and generous individual in all aspects of school life. This year the award went to Lucy Heaney.

 

The LCA Student of the Year is Sofie Tenanty. She personifies hard work and dedication, has excelled in all her key assignments and tasks and embodies the spirit of the LCA Programme.

 

The 6th Yr. Student of the Year Award was presented to Charlotte Colgan a student who has displayed an excellent work ethic and a high level of participation in school life throughout her years in the school. In consultation with staff, students were nominated for this award and it was not an easy task to choose one winner. Charlotte is a very hardworking, diligent, and extremely helpful student and has been involved in so many aspects of school life. She influences others positively and is an excellent role model for other students.

 

Congratulations to all award winners across the years and best of luck to the Junior and Leaving Cert exam students as they sit their state examinations in June.
