Exciting Engineering Competition Showcases Creativity and Innovation for Engineers Week
In celebration of Engineers Week, students at Athboy Community School put their creativity and problem-solving skills to the test in a thrilling engineering competition. The challenge? To design and construct a model roller coaster using only recyclable materials. The competition encouraged participants to apply principles of engineering, and sustainability.
The top prizes were awarded to the most impressive designs. Cormac Collier claimed first place, demonstrating exceptional engineering and creativity in his roller coaster model. Jack Canty secured second place with a well-structured and innovative design.
To conclude the week’s activities, students participated in a short engineering quiz designed to test their knowledge of fundamental engineering concepts. Following a competitive round of questions, Shauna Brady emerged victorious, earning a well-deserved prize for her expertise and quick thinking.
The competition was a resounding success, highlighting the importance of engineering in everyday life and inspiring students to explore careers in STEM fields. The event organiser Mr. Ruddy expressed his gratitude to all participants, emphasizing the value of hands-on learning experiences in developing the next generation of engineers. He also thanked Debbie Mc Mahon former student of Athboy Community School now working with and representing Turmec Engineering for sponsoring prizes for the competitions. Debbie spoke to the students about Turmec and her career to date. Students warmly welcomed Debbie’s contribution, and all involved thanked her for her attendance.
With such a dynamic and engaging Engineers Week, students left with newfound confidence, knowledge, and excitement for the world of engineering. The school looks forward to hosting similar competitions in the future, continuing to spark curiosity and innovation among young engineers.
