School Captains 2025-26

November 14, 2025

There was great excitement recently in Athboy Community School when this year’s School Captains were announced. Although there has been a thriving, active Prefect system in Athboy C.S.  for many years now, it has been only in the last two years that Captains were chosen from the student body. The two Captains are excellent role models for other students to look up to.

The Captains were chosen from the cohort of 6th year Prefects. The candidate must have carried out the role of Prefect to an excellent standard. All candidates were considered and a shortlist was decided upon by Principal, Deputy Principal, relevant Year Heads and the Student Leadership Coordinator, Miss Di LuciaThe teaching staff then voted on the shortlisted candidates.

Athboy Community School is proud to announce that the School Captains for the 2025-26 Academic Year are Lucy Heaney and Charlotte Colgan, two very worthy and exemplary candidates.

Lucy came to Athboy C.S from Clonmellon N.S. and Charlotte attended O’Growney N.S.

Lucy is a passionate member of her local GAA club St. Paul’s/Delvin, where she began to practice her leadership skills on and off the pitch. She is also very enthusiastic about traditional Irish music and has been playing from a very young age competing in many Fleadhs along the way.

Charlotte is a keen reader and has been a lively part of both the local and school community including completing her silver Gaisce Award, for which she spent time volunteering at the local nursing home. She also enjoys daily walks with her dog whilst listening to music and spending time with family and friends.

Speaking in their address to the school community on the School’s website, the girls said, “Towards the end of 3rd year we both applied to be prefects for the following year, and were successful. After a year of fulfilling our roles as prefects and getting involved in the school community, we were voted in by our teachers to be this year’s school captains. Our roles as school captains involve, speaking at events, being role models to other students and being the school representatives.

Everyone in Athboy Community School extends their congratulations to Lucy and Charlotte and wishes them well in their duties in the year ahead.
