Back to Broadway – Show Fast Approaching

Back to Broadway 

Athboy C.S presents ‘Back to Broadway’, a medley of scenes from well-known musicals which runs in the school for three nights from February 25th-27th. Tickets cost just €15 and will sell fast so to avoid disappointment, buy online or pick up from the front office, Ph. 046-9487894.  

We hope to profile some of the cast each week as the run approaches. This week it is the turn of three of King Henry VIII’s wives; Catherine of Aragon, Jane Seymour and Catherine Howard, who by day go under the names of Jessica McKenna, Rachel Long and Maya Namba Okello! 

“Hi, my name is Jessica McKenna. I’m 18 and a 6th year student here in A.C.S. I am playing Catherine of Aragon in Six and have also played a part in two previous school musicals in my time here, the Granny in ‘The Addams Family’ and Laura in ‘Back to the 80’s’. I have done stage school for 14 years and have been part of many different musicals. I am very excited to take part in my last musical for this school. I hope that if you come to watch it you enjoy it just as much as I have enjoyed rehearsals and being on stage.” 

Hey there! My name is Rachel Long and I am a 6th year student at ACS. I am very excited to take part in this show as I absolutely love these musicals and there really is something for everyone!  I have taken part in a few musicals and pantos both in school and out. I played Morticia Addams in our last musical ‘The Addams Family’ and Alice in the O’Growney Players production of ‘Alice in Wonderland.’ In this show, I will play Glinda in our ‘Wicked’ section and Jane Seymore in the ‘Six: The Musical’ section. I am so grateful to be back on the school’s stage and I hope we will all have some fun and a bop to these beloved showtunes!” 

“Hi, my name is Maya Namba Okello and I’m a 6th year student. I’ve been on stage many times like in our school musical “Back to the 80’s” in 2022 and when I was in stage school . In “Back to Broadway” I play, Elphaba in “Wicked” and Katherine Howard in “Six”. I adore these musicals so much and I’m so glad to be a part of them in this show. I’m excited to get back on stage one more time!” 

Over 130 students will be on stage during this two hour extravaganza featuring unforgettable songs from musicals like Grease, Les Miserables, Wicked, Six, Mathilda and The Little Mermaid. 

Rehearsals have been ongoing since late September and things are really heating up as the weeks have ticked by. With professional lighting and sound, the school’s General Purpose Area will be turned, as usual, into a fitting auditorium. Make sure to pick up your tickets for what promises to be a great night’s entertainment!
