T.Y Visit to Butler’s Chocolate Factory

April 28, 2026

By Megan Broughill, TY

The TY students in Athboy C.S got to tour Butler’s Chocolate factory in Dublin on Monday the 27th of April. The tour started off with the group viewing the factory from above, seeing machines like the ‘Twisty-Wisty 5000.’ The tour guide, Greg, amazed the class by telling them that Butler’s make an average of 40,000 chocolates per day.

Greg then brought the group to see a short movie about Butler’s Chocolates and how they originated. The company was started by Marion Butler in 1932, then in 1959 the company was acquired by Mr Seamus Sorensen whose family continued to run it. The company was officially named “Butlers Irish Chocolate” in 1984.

The students got to view the museum and enjoy as much chocolate as they could, which was the main goal for most! Lastly, the group got to design their own milk chocolate elephants with white chocolate which they then got to taste and enjoy. A great day out was had by all.
