Junior Girls Footballers Defeat Longwood

By Erin Tobin, 2nd Year

Colaiste Clavin 1-11, Athboy C.S 5-11

The Junior Girls played a phenomenal game this Monday {2nd November} against Coláiste Clavin in Longwood. The girls are coached by Ms Frazer and Ms McGovern.

The team were on the ball the minute the whistle blew, with Amy Mooney scoring the first point of the match. The Coláiste Clavin girls fought back scoring two points before Athboy got a second score. There were some great scores in the first half, including two great points from Daisy Crichton and Lucy Donnelly. Emilija Norvaisaite scored an amazing point from the 2-pointer line. There was a bit of gap to fill at half–time as Longwood were leading by 2 points but Ms Frazer and Ms McGovern gave the girls a pep talk before they returned to the pitch.

The girls must have taken their coaches advice on board, as they were ready to go when the ball was thrown in. They fought for every ball and scored some great goals in the second half, the first coming from Lucy Donnelly.

All the girls played spectacularly well with some great play from Ava Watson, Emily and Lucy Donnelly and Amy Mooney. The girls hard work paid off, with the full-time score being 5-11 to 1-11. A fantastic victory for Athboy C.S. Well done to the girls for their hard work and to coaches MS Frazer and Ms McGovern.
